SHOCKED VS. SURPRISED

Shock is usually a negative thing - a sudden piece of news that makes you sad, angry or upset. ''Shock'' is used by journalists for strong effect on the news; it is a word used for a thing sudden, unexpected, with dangerous aftermath and effects on other things.

Surprise can be a positive or negative piece of unexpected news - a surprise birthday party, a sudden meeting with someone you have not seen for some time. A ''surprise'' is a simple news, it can be a gift, a present, good news and so on.

##So lets say it this way- surprises are generally good. They make one happy. (e.g. My uncle paid us a surprise visit yesterday.) But sometimes one can get bad surprises too. (e.g. Last night’s heavy snow came as a complete surprise). However, one can never give anybody a good shock. Shocks are always bad( It was a shock to see her looking so ill).

So, when a bad surprise troubles you a lot, you are shocked.
