Songster vs. Singer

A singer is a general term for someone who sings, while a songster is an older term often used for a male singer who performs composed or traditional songs. In modern usage, "songster" is rare, and "singer" is the standard term, although it can also be used more informally by some journalists to refer to popular or admired singers.
